What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a medical treatment that involves the insertion of extremely fine needles into specific points on the body, along pathways known as meridians that connect nerves, muscles, tissues, and organs. This allows for proper circulation of blood, lymphatic fluids, nerve signals, and more, which keeps the body working optimally.

How does acupuncture work?

The insertion of an acupuncture needle creates a physiological response in the body. Needles can be inserted to achieve desired effects including the release of endorphins that relieve pain and lessen stress, vasodilation of blood vessels to reduce inflammation and improve circulation, improved nerve conduction, better digestion, improved immunity, and balancing hormones.

Why should I choose East Asian Medicine?

The East Asian Medical system allows for the whole person to be treated instead of being compartmentalized and sent to multiple different doctors. East Asian Medicine identifies the root cause of the problem and facilitates your body to self-regulate and heal, without the use of pharmaceuticals or surgery. East Asian Medicine is a safe and natural system that will allow your body to heal on its own.

How is my condition diagnosed?

East Asian Medical practitioners use several different tools to diagnose, including bilateral pulse diagnosis, tongue observation, physical observation of the patient, in-depth questioning, and physical examination. Your doctor may ask multiple questions and also take photos of your tongue for analysis.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Wear loose-fitting clothing or bring shorts and a loose-fitting shirt to change into. Be prepared with any questions you might have. Eat a light snack prior to your appointment (a piece of fruit, granola bar, etc.). Refrain from drinking alcohol or taking stimulants for at least 6 hours prior to your appointment. Drink at least 8 ounces of water before your appointment.

How safe is acupuncture?

Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine are extremely safe. This medical system is all-natural and drug-free, which means no side effects. The needles used are completely sterile and are only used once, then discarded.
